How the colors work

Slate green leads with 20% of the painting, and mahogany follows with 11%.

Cognac is the accent: only 1% of the painting, but enough to lift the rest.

Its values run from 1 (ink brown) to 5 (khaki), on a scale from 0 (black) to 10 (white): a middle range, neither hard nor hazy.

Warm and cool are close to balanced: 35% warm, 52% cool.

Mahogany and verdigris sit on opposite sides of the color wheel, so each makes the other look stronger (see complementary colors).
